We’re forgoing the usual newsletter this week just to take a minute to reflect on the horrifying events in Atlanta, Georgia yesterday. Violence against Asian-Americans, against sex workers, against women, is always unacceptable, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of all of those lost yesterday. Sex workers are particularly vulnerable under current laws and we support all efforts to decriminalise and make sex work a safe choice for consenting adults. If you’re interested in supporting Asian and migrant sex workers at this time, then the organisation Red Canary Song is a good place to start - it’s a grass roots collective organising transnationally. You can also follow them on Twitter.
Sex work is real work. Let’s look out for and support sex workers in our own communities and beyond.
We’ve updated the weekly events listings and we’ll post twice the members’ area content next week. We sincerely appreciate your understanding.
One thing before we go - another chance to support great work here in NOLA. The New Orleans Abortion Fund (NOAF) helps women across the region take control of their own bodies where government makes it otherwise difficult to do so. Local fundraising organisation For The Love Of is releasing an online cabaret in support of NOAF, and it features several great New Orleans’ burlesque stars and entertainers.
All monies collected will go directly to NOAF. For online access to the show, Venmo @Angela-Jo-21 with a suggested $10 donation with "NOAF" and an email address in the comments OR donate directly to NOAF and send confirmation receipt/screenshot to picollat@gmail.com
Thanks for bearing with us this week, we’ll be back to our regular goofy selves next time. Until then, take care of each other, and as always, much love to you all.
