Just a few more days of rampant Jazz Daddery until the city returns to its relative levels of normality, Hawaiian shirt levels recalibrate and all the great jazz musicians such as Jimmy Buffet, Deathcab for Cutie and Nelly return to their natural habitats. The city’s delightfully seedy underbelly continues undisturbed, though, and indeed this week sees some wonderful new additions to the entertainment nightscape.
New Orleans was immortalized in Tennessee Williams’ most famous work, and there’s homage being paid in turn by the fabulous Lefty Lucy in her new burlesque play, ‘A Peep Show Named Desire’ (see our preview here!). We’ll have a review from Friday’s opening night up on Saturday for your perusing pleasure and you can secure your own tickets right here! Meanwhile, Pretty Boi celebrate Cinco de Mayo tonight in their own suitably glamorous style, the marvellous Mz Juno fires up her monthly Cabaret Noir and Bella Blue (pictured) returns to treat denizens of Palm & Pine to some late night burly action. For all your week’s nightlife choices, you can see our updated listings right here!
Finally, this week’s SCOTUS news has stirred up some direct action from local entertainers that you can help support. One fundraiser takes place on Saturday 14th @ The AllWays Lounge as the city’s best comics come together for Moral Panic: A Fundraiser For The New Orleans Abortion Fund. It’s a great line-up and tickets are available now! Laura Sanders, one of New Orleans’ best comedians, is on the bill and is also a very talented illustrator. You can find her also raising money for NOAF at Coloring for Cocktails, which is this Saturday (5/7) evening at Twelve Mile Limit (see flyer below).
As always, have a wonderful week whatever you’re doing, and we’ll be back with more events next time. Much love to you.
